  • Stay calm; speak quietly; encourage slow breathing.
  • Do not say things that minimize the importance of the feelings ("It's not that bad").
  • If there is chest pain or severe difficulty breathing, call MDA.

Inhale for 4 seconds; hold for 4 seconds; exhale for 4 seconds. Repeat 6 times.

Quick Grounding

Say a calming sentence out loud: "I'm okay, this will pass."

If Having a Panic Attack

Stay where you are; sit down; focus on breathing; ask for help.

Message to Share with Family

I'm feeling anxious after the siren. Please stay close, talk to me quietly, and encourage me to breathe deeply.
